ART HELPS US SEE THE WORLD IN A DIFFERENT LIGHT
Born in Rotterdam in 1937, John lived through the horror of WW2. He migrated to Australia in 1954 as a teenager, with his family.
He has been painting for many years. From childhood he had an interest in images, pen and pictures.
John has become an Australian citizen. never-the-less frequent visits to his homeland remind him of his roots. Paintings that celebrate Brugge, Paris and Prague, for example, demonstrate his attachment to his European heritage.
A wonderful hobby has been enriched by different teachers, introducing him to oils, watercolours and pastels. Gregory Smith in particular, has influenced John’s painting style with the notion of tonal realism. In his local group – WAG – Woodend Art Group, John has regularly taken part in exhibitions. He has also introduced a refreshing and successful class for beginners “Dabblers’ Delight”.
“The Heartland of Australia” is the central theme of this exhibition.
